Matt Alfonso, Founder of Culture Through Leadership 

Matt graduated with a Master's in Physical and Health Education from James Madison University. He started his career teaching Physical Education in Arlington, VA, and coaching high school basketball at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. He then taught and coached overseas for two years at the American School of Asuncion in Paraguay and two years at Suzhou Singapore International School in China. 

Upon returning to the U.S. he coached college basketball at Bard College for five years. He started as an Assistant Coach and was promoted to Associate Head Coach. During this time his passion for leadership and developing team culture continued to grow. 

Matt started his coaching business as a Mindfulness Coach. He subsequently transitioned to Leadership Coaching and started Culture Through Leadership. He realizes the impact that successful cultures and leaders have on people’s performance and overall well-being. Matt incorporates many of the lessons that he learned as a college basketball coach as well as from practicing and studying mindfulness.

Matt is a Certified Coach through Coach Training Alliance. He is also certified in the emotional intelligence assessments, EQ-i 2.0 and EQi 360.
