A Blueprint to Achieve Your Goals

Setting goals provides a clear target for you to strive for. It can motivate you to achieve more than you thought was possible! The journey alone will help you grow and improve as a person.

The issue with goals though is that many people don't have the right strategies. This leads people to become frustrated with goal setting and give up on the practice.

This blueprint is designed to change that for you. To provide you with a roadmap so that you have a clear goal and a plan to achieve it. To develop your goal and plan answer the questions below in order. Then implement the five keys as you work toward your goal.

1. What do I want to achieve?
Be specific and choose one goal. You can do this with additional goals later but I recommend starting with one.

2. Why do I want to achieve this? Write your top 3-6 reasons for wanting to achieve it. This provides you with your meaning and motivation.

3. Where am I right now? Be honest and get clear with where you currently are.

4. Who do I need to be to achieve this goal? This is looking at what strengths you need to highlight or areas that you need to improve. This is not about trying to be someone else. It is about being your best self to achieve this.

5. Who can help me get there? Chances are there is someone out there who has achieved this or something similar. Reach out to others who have had success in this area. If you can't talk with them then read or watch videos that they have produced.

6. How will I accomplish it? This is where you develop your plan. What are the 3-5 most important things for you to achieve this? Decide when and how often you will do each of these items.

7. When will I accomplish this by? This provides a timeframe and gives you something to strive for.

8. What is a benchmark that I can set? Write down at least one benchmark to make sure that you are staying on track. For example, if your goal is to run 5 miles, you can set a benchmark for when you will have run 2 miles.

9. How will I measure to see if I have been successful? It's important to have a way to measure it. For certain goals this will be easy, others may require you to get creative.

10. How will I hold myself accountable? This may be through scheduling, journaling, a checklist, or through the help of a friend/family member/coach.

11. What is my first step? Have an immediate step that is clear that you can do to get started and build momentum.

Here are 5 keys to help you along the way:

*Write it down and look at it often - Bob Proctor recommends putting this on a goal card and carrying it with you. This helps to keep it top of mind and puts your attention on it.

*Visualize yourself achieving it - See yourself having accomplished your goal in your mind. Use all of your senses and bring in emotion as you do this exercise.

*Take consistent action - A plan is only useful if you are taking consistent action towards it!

*Be willing to adjust your plan - As you are working towards it you will see what is working and what is not. Be willing to make adjustments to your plan to maximize your results.

*Demonstrate perseverance - There are going to be setbacks along the way. Just because you have the right strategies and a plan doesn't mean it will be easy. Having resilience is key to achieving anything worthwhile.
